About Me
As a licensed mental health counselor (LMHC), I enjoy working individually with adults. I received my bachelor’s degree from Duke University and my master’s degree in Counseling from Virginia Tech. I am a Nationally Certified Counselor. I have trained in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Mindfulness-based approaches.
On my path to becoming a therapist, I worked in IT, exploring ways of leveraging technology to improve education. This experience helped me to appreciate how our perceptions of the world around us drive how we see ourselves and our abilities to direct our behaviors.
Prior to private practice, I counseled individuals at community-based agency settings, helping those with serious mental illness find hope through acceptance of their current situation while developing skills that allow them to make productive changes in their lives.
I bring a calming and empathic presence to my interactions with others. My skills include a solid grounding in mindfulness, careful listening, and a focus on problem-solving and stress-reduction strategies.
As a daughter, sister, wife, and mother of three grown children, I bring varied life experience to my practice. I also have personal experience as a military spouse, including assignment overseas and deployment to a conflict zone.
